Daddys Home 2 2017

It picks up where it left off in the first installment, and at the very least, it got the family drama part of the plot right. By the end of the film, the comedy has broken in on the fourth wall. This was for the purpose of letting the viewers know that the film was meant to be a comfortable watch, and as such, quality was not really taken into consideration.

Things immediately take a turn for the worst when both men discover they'll also be hosting their fathers over the holiday. For Dusty, this means enduring the philandering and foul-mouthed Kurt , while Brad enables the fussy and oblivious Don . Then, just when things couldn't get any more chaotic, another stepdad drops by to visit.

Later, Kurt admits he was a bad father and encourages Dusty to be a better parent than he was. The first Bad Moms movie coats this genuine cultural dilemma in platitudes about eternal maternal love and speeches about less homework and more fun. By the end of A Bad Moms Christmas, however, it is pretty clear that a bad mom is one who gets wasted and engages in random acts of vandalism. In the first movie, the bad moms trash a grocery store; in the new one they trash a Santa display at the mall.

While, the kids going back and forth between their stepfather and father becomes a tiresome. They decide to celebrate Christmas together in one household. Then, comes the surprise when Dusty's father calls and says he is coming over. When Dusty and Brad's fathers are coming to visit their grandkids. They decide to go on a holiday retreat to beat having to debate where they are opening gifts and whose house they are having dinner at.

Here's how the Resident Evil 4 Remake compares to the original RE4. Daddy's Home isn't outright bad, but once you've seen Ferrell drunkenly throw a basketball at a cheerleader's face, you've already reached the height of its outrageous comedy. Granted, there are a few good belly laughs to come out of the stars' antics, but they're few and far between. Christianknight is using Letterboxd to share film reviews and lists with friends.

The jokes were bland and dry...you're not going to remember this thing in T-minus one day...a sequel that's not as good as the first movie. For his part, Dusty’s motivations are largely selfish—until near the end of the movie. That’s when he finally and grudgingly realizes that Brad has fatherhood skills and instincts he doesn’t, and that the other man’s attentive patience and gentleness are very good things for the children. …coarse language and vulgar, squirm-worthy humor… If you were thinking “Daddy’s Home” might make a nice movie to take the family to over the holidays, think again. Brad and Dusty's plan is complicated when Dusty's macho father, Kurt, a former astronaut and still a ladies' man, suddenly shows up for Christmas.

Things aren’t much better for the dads over at Daddy’s Home. The first version of this movie was clunky and uneven, but charming in a pre-2016 way. It follows stepdad Brad Whitaker as he tries to negotiate the return of biological dad Dusty Mayron . Brad is an earnest husband and father, who delights in domestic tasks and the mundane routines of parenthood.

Ambrosio was successfully hidden in her scenes to avoid exposing the fact that she is a model, not an actress. John Cena was also credited as returning in his cameo role as well, but I never saw him, though the other characters acted as though he was there. What drowns out the comedy though is the sentimental storyline around a personal tragedy being lived out by one of the family. The angst and nasty back-biting that surrounds this I found neither funny nor pleasant.

The production values are good and the acting appropriate for a comedy. Will Ferrell plays Brad, who works hard to gain the respect and affection of his two stepchildren, Megan and Dylan. Just as he begins to feel he’s making progress, he learns that Dusty , the children’s muscle-bound, motorcycle-riding father, is coming to town. If you want to explore toxic masculine pride in family life without being asked to applaud it with your laughter, try The Meyerowitz Stories , directed by Noah Baumbach .

Brad and Sara reconcile, and Dusty decides to stay and be a good "co-dad" to his kids. Daddy's Home is your typical case of "all the best parts are in the trailer." While the movie stars two funny leads, the story wreaks of Hollywood convention, and the jokes are average at best. Usually, it just feels like the writers are waiting for Ferrell and Wahlberg to spin straw into gold -- which sometimes they do, but not nearly enough to make the movie good. In the end, Daddy's Home is a far cry from Ferrell and Wahlberg's last team-up in The Other Guys. Daddy's Home follows mild-mannered radio executive Brad , who's struggling to connect with his two new step-kids after marrying his wife Sarah (played by Freaks and Geeks' Linda Cardellini).

Sexual Content

These are cartoonish women, barely rising to the status of meaningful human beings. The films don’t challenge the structures that trap moms in outdated gender ideals—unsupported by maternity leaves—and in a culture of sexual objectification and harassment. Daddy's Home 2 had the potential of being comedic and fun like how the first film was. But like most comedy sequels, this one was a dud with most of the laughs already shown in the trailers.

It's almost as if the casting director, writers and filmmakers knew exactly what Daddy's Home needed in order to make a better sequel, even with the perfect amount of elements needed, nothing more, nothing less. It is truly impressive how well the casting turned out with them, they played their parts perfectly, you can truly see "like father, like son" written all over their characters. Making matters worse is the fact that Daddy’s Home 2 tries to pass itself off as a lighthearted Christmas movie about family but introduces elements which are anything but light. Absentee fathers, divorce, learning to discipline step-children, handling bad influences in your child's life; all of these subjects make an appearance only to get shrugged off by movie’s end.
